About Granville Ohio

Village of Granville - New England Charm in the Heart of Ohio

Originally founded by New Englanders in 1805, Granville is one of the most fascinating and charming communities in Licking County. Spanning approximately 16,000 acres of scenic, rolling hills, its unique and quaint character reflects the original settlers’ vision for the town. Around 200 Puritans from Massachusetts chose to settle in Ohio, and unlike many communities of the time, they arrived with a clear plan for how they wanted their town to be shaped. They established a small, tidy village that experienced early success in manufacturing. As transportation expanded with the development of roads and canals, Granville’s focus gradually shifted toward education, leading to the founding of Denison University in 1831.

Today, Granville is known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and strong commitment to education. The village has stayed true to its roots while continuing to grow, creating a distinctive atmosphere that is difficult to find elsewhere. Home to more than 300 small businesses—many of them locally owned—Granville offers a vibrant and thriving downtown. The area is easily walkable and filled with a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and services, all contributing to its lively and welcoming feel.

Granville offers something for everyone, from its scenic landscapes to the people who help shape its character. The surrounding forests and green spaces blend seamlessly with the village, creating a cozy and well-kept environment that reflects the pride of its residents. For entrepreneurs, Granville provides an especially supportive community, with a strong network of local business owners who are eager to connect and share their experience. For those simply looking for a place to live, work, or visit, Granville is filled with kind, welcoming individuals who make it easy to feel at home.

Overall, Granville is a beautiful and inviting community in Licking County—one that offers a memorable experience for both residents and visitors alike.
